Dynamic simulation of three-phase nine-level multilevel inverter with switching angles optimized using nature-inspired algorithm

This paper recommends the use of grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA), a nature-inspired algorithm, for optimizing switching-angle applied to cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (CHBMLI). Switching angles are selected based on minimum value objective function formulated using concept selective harmonic minimization pulse width modulation (SHMPWM) technique. MATLAB/Simulink-PSIM dynamic co-simulation conducted 3-phase 9-level CHBMLI shows that controlled GOA derived is able respond varying index demand and synthesize an AC staircase output voltage waveform with desired fundamental minimized low-order harmonics. Compared Newton Raphson (NR) technique, find optimum solutions over wider range. Genetic Algorithm (GA), global minima higher probability. The simulation results validate performance calculation SHMPWM.
